![]() ![]() At the Galaxy, I watched Live By Night, which was okay but not as good as its trailer looked. Since the Vin Diesel xXx movie is a perfect drive-in flick, I figured that I’ll face that as my only choice somewhere down the road. It was sure glad to find so many movies to choose from. All the better to sell them more sausage on a stick. Don’t you agree that every drive-in really ought to have a mini golf course? They’re pretty cheap to build and operate, and they encourage moviegoers to get there earlier. It was because I burned so many calories playing mini golf. How many drive-in concessions stands will sell you a fresh garden salad? The Galaxy did, which made me feel much healthier about also eating sausage on a stick. It’s sort of in the middle of nowhere, just a few miles north of Ennis, but it’s a half-hour drive from Dallas, so it must be able to pull some patrons from the DFW metroplex. It’s one of the few drive-ins with two snack bars. It opened in December 2004 with three screens, then expanded to four, then five, and now seven screens. The Galaxy is one of those renaissance drive-ins. I’m starting to get nostalgic for the 30-minute hops in Florida. It’s Day 22 of my virtual Drive-In-a-Day Odyssey, starting with another two-hour slog from Gatesville to the Galaxy Drive-In Movie Theatre of Ennis TX. ![]() She is a wife to a musician and a mother to a bouncing baby boy.Photo by Jeff Vaillancourt, from the Carload Flickr pool Lauren Kimmel is the Co-Founder of Dallas Moms Blog, a great resource for moms looking to connect to other moms, learn and laugh about motherhood, and discover all that Dallas has to offer. There is NO way we could ever bring our baby to a movie theater, but this family-friendly establishment makes it possible. But I'm not complaining, we got to watch a movie on a giant screen, and for that, I am thankful. I personally loved the trying-to-get-the-baby-to-fall-asleep for the first half of the movie approach. Because it is a drive-in there is so much freedom and flexibility with how you enjoy your movie. This is a really great activity for a date night, family fun night, or just movie watching with friends. Going on a weeknight pretty much ensures there won't be a line to get in, and if you get there early, you have the great advantage of picking the best spot in the lot (of which there are 5). You have the option to either sit comfortably in your car and enjoy your flick, or bring lawn chairs to set up and kick back. The staff is friendly and everyone really strives to give you that drive-in experience.īut let me back up and reiterate the affordable part. The Galaxy Drive In Theater in Ennis is a charming, and super affordable, excursion to enjoy with the whole family. Although our crying baby was still a little distracting, it was nice to be able to actually go to a movie, and once he fell asleep in the back seat, it was like a date night without having to pay a sitter. Loud candy wrappers, crying babies, and text message alerts are all acceptable as long as your fellow car passengers don't mind. Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but I can't figure out why you wouldn't want to go see a movie where you can wear socks and snuggle under a blanket in the comfort of your own car. There just aren't many left and the ones that are still standing, struggle to stay in business. It is a sad fact that Drive-In movie theaters are quickly becoming a thing of the past. ![]()
